Resources and Action Opportunities - FCAC UPDATES FOR NOVEMBER 2023

As we grieve the lives that have been lost in Israel and Palestine and take action to stop further violence, we are committed to holding each other's hands while we walk through this dark time, and rejecting narratives and disinformation that aim to divide us. We stand in solidarity with people everywhere, regardless of race or religion, who yearn for freedom, dignity, and safety.

Last month, Native Movement held a space for resourcing and community conversation that helped many feel less alone in this time. We are planning another similar processing and discussion event, along with Native Movement and the Alaska Peace Center. We hope to offer this as a space to process, to grieve, and to listen deeply to our neighbors, regardless of religion or background. Stay tuned for further details.

We also wanted to provide some resources for our community that were shared with us by the climate advocacy lab. If you have any resources, thoughts or feelings you’d like to share with us, please don’t hesitate to email us at connect@fbxclimateaction.org. We want to hear from our community in this time.

Resources:

  • This is an excellent data-backed narrative guide which offers language to “inoculate against and rebuff dehumanizing rhetoric, name what people are facing in this moment of crisis, and demand immediate actions to prevent further atrocities as well as lasting solutions that support Palestinian and Israeli people.”

  • This is an article on misinformation and disinformation within the current context and some great tips to avoid spreading it.

  • And importantly, here are some resources for self and community care in the midst of the current tragedy.

Protect the Arctic Refuge: Last day to Submit Comments to BLM

In 2017 Congress passed a law requiring the Bureau of Land Management to hold oil and gas lease sales in the Coastal Plain of the Arctic Refuge. The second of these lease sales must be held by the end of 2024.  In October, BLM released a draft  Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) looking at the impacts of the leasing program, and the last day for public comment is today, Nov. 7th.
